It's Time for an Overhaul

ZURBoffice

It's an exciting time for ZURB.  If you've been following our blog, you'll know that we've embarked on a huge renovation project to build ZURB's new headquarters.  It's been a lengthy process filled with hiccups, but we're really excited to see it all come together. For many companies, buying a building doesn't make sense, but for us it gives us freedom to grow our business based on our vision.  It's a chance for us to create a space that allows all the details of our work and process to shine.

When it comes to complete product redesigns, it's not always a good thing though, as it can derail momentum.  But sometimes it's necessary, especially when you've hit a plateau, to get your product or company moving in the right direction. In the last year, we've made quite a few decisions that fall in this category that set our business up to thrive in a multidevice world.

You'll notice we've redesigned this newsletter to be more friendly for mobile and tablet devices.  Foundation, our advanced front-end framework, recently launched with a whole new code base to make it much easier to build across devices.  This past month we launched Plunk, a free mobile app, that rethinks a mobile test provided in Verify. And launching next week, you'll be able to use our rebuilt Notable iPhone app that gives you the ability to capture a full-length mobile web page.

We look forward to sharing all our new updates and getting your feedback on our ideas.  Now, on to the news!

Bigger, Better Foundation Font Icons

Even though we love what we had done with our first set of Foundation Font Icons,  we knew that our implementation could be better and more accessible for things like screen readers. However, we didn't want to totally scrap what we'd done, but wanted instead to make the icons better than ever before.  We also added a few new icons while we were at it.

Wireframe Faster with Foundation Stencils

While Foundation is great for creating hi-fi wireframes in code, sometimes there's not enough time to do so. To help you out when you don't have time to code up a wireframe, we've created a set of Foundation stencils. You can either use the Omnigraffle stencil set or download the all-vector PDFs that work in either Illustrator or Photoshop.

How 'Bout Them Apples: Introducing Plunk

It's no secret that more and more people are using their mobile phones to browse the internet. We've got to have tools to test whether people are actually clicking where we want them to. Plunk is one of those tools that allows you to test the touch targets in your designs so you can verify your ideas before you either iterate on them or start over from scratch.

A More Mobile-Friendly Newsletter

We no longer check email solely on our desktop browsers. More often than not, we're looking at our email on a mobile device, whether it's our smartphones or our tablets. It's important to ensure that even something as simple as an email newsletter looks good on many different devices. Which is why we've rebooted our newsletter to be more mobile friendly.

Heavy Hitters at ZURBsoapbox

We've had some heavy hitters come through our ZURBsoapbox series recently. In July, Kissmetrics CEO Hiten Shah talked about some of his early failures. This month, Twitter Co-Founder Evan Williams gave us the scoop on his latest venture, Medium. And on Sept. 7th, the Winkelvoss twins will be getting on their soapbox. Seats are limited so get 'em while you can.
