Building Responsively

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hope you're enjoying the day with friends and family like we are. And we've also had Santa working overtime delivering gifts to our close friends this past week.

As the year comes to an end, we can't help but reflect back on everything that's happened. It's been a huge year of growth for ZURB and we owe a lot of our good fortune to the rise of Foundation. Over the last year, we've evolved our responsive front-end framework by continuously using it on our products and client projects. It's been battle tested every day and it's been fun to see it evolve with the community. It truly has become our building blocks to designing responsively. Early next year, we'll be releasing 4.0, our most ambitious effort yet.

What have we learned? People really want to understand how to design responsively. And we're going to continue to feed that hunger.

How will we continue to evolve? Embrace mobile — its growth is significantly larger than desktop use. We need to provide the means to help people create responsive products and sites with a mobile-first mentality. Product designers can't afford to ignore small-screen devices anymore in the coming year.

This newsletter is a great example. Two years ago only 9% of people read our newsletter on a mobile device. Now over 40% of readers open it on a phone or tablet. And each month it ticks upward. Want further proof? In the last 25 days, our responsive newsletter templates were viewed 170k times. That's a hunger we intend to feed.

So to celebrate our love for responsive design, we not only sent the snakecube blocks as gifts, but we also created a fun little drawing game that works across devices to play. Enjoy!

Would You Like to Play A Game?

Our nifty responsive drawing game is designed to get your creative juices going. Can you create a racetrack or a tree within a 7x7 grid of wooden blocks? You can also send your drawing to friends and family so they can take a guess at what you drew. Or you can guess what other people drew. Play it on a phone, tablet or desktop.

The Year in Responsive Design

More and more people are digging their heels into responsive design. This year was a big one for those designing responsively. Recently, we did a retrospective on the trends, sites and tools that shaped how we design for any device.

Go Responsive With Your Emails

After making our emails responsive, tons of people wanted to know if we could do the same for them. So we decided to release a few responsive email templates. It was one of our most popular efforts this year.

Design Faster With HTML Templates

With the release of Foundation 3 earlier this year, we provided eight HTML templates to go with it. It's dead simple to use these simple HTML templates, just grab the code and drop it between the body tags of a Foundation page.

Join the Mobile Revolution

Our friends at Square are looking for a Visual Designer to help revolutionize how mobile devices are used to pay for goods and services. And the good folks at Gree International want a Senior Designer to take mobile gaming to the next level.
